If you’re going to cast a magic spell, instead of selecting an enemy or having it shoot forward in a line, moving it off to the side will allow it to travel in a tight arc which might nail more enemies.

Not a lot was added to make this new other than touch screen controls with one minor change. It’s a turn-based battle system with a timer bar that was made popular in the Grandia games allowing you to see upcoming turns. The battle system is definitely a throw back as well. While a complete duplication, I absolutely loved seeing them honored. Downloading a game with Apple Arcade is free, however, the mobile gaming subscription service does cost 4.99 a month. Although this game is iOS exclusive, it feels like a fully-fleshed video game, rather than a small mobile game. It’s literally a trio that is lead by a beautiful woman who is assisted by a skinny dramatic man who attacks from a range and a stocky guy who shields the team. Fantasian gives off a relaxing sort of nostalgia, reminiscent of playing your first JRPG as a kid. They’re rival treasure hunters to the main character, and outside of the fact that they introduce themselves almost exactly like Team Rocket they are exactly like the LeBlanc Syndicate of Final Fantasy X-2 (a game I love a lot). My favorite nod is the Cinderella Tri-Stars. Also, instead of Materia, there’s Mechteria, a mechanical equivalent of the same damn thing. It doesn’t help that the game features a villain who looks exactly like Sephiroth. Here’s an example from one of the first towns where I noticed this. One thing I didn’t like is that in many of the cities, which are gorgeous at first glance, you’ll occasionally have moments where the cameras zooms in and the scene gets a little grainy. The backgrounds in this game are literal real-world dioramas photographed from multiple angles so your characters are running around on real dirt on real surfaces. The environments were built from the ground up. Now though, games look a lot more realistic so he found a way to capture the model feel without making the backgrounds suffer.

Hironobu Sakaguchi was kind in the era of having characters running around previously rendered backgrounds, which often resulted in your character looking like they were running through a weird model city. The other thing that made me interested in the game was the environments. Hopefully, a trailer isn’t far around the corner. If an RPG is coming out by him, I’m going to pay attention to it - especially if he was inspired to do it while playing Final Fantasy 6, my second favorite Final Fantasy game (after 9). Whether soon means a couple of months or towards the end of this year remains to be seen, but stay tuned as we await further details on Fantasian for Apple Arcade. With this year still pretty fresh, there’s a lot of time in which Fantasia wait to reveal further details, but gameplay or a release date likely might not be far off either as Sakaguchi claims the team has been working on the game for the last three years and will likely launch “soon”. It also seems as though there will be some kind of party system as the latter screenshot shows two characters and HP/MP meters to go with them. Previous screenshots of Fantasian have featured other environments as well, such as a zig-zagging dirt path and a road running through trees. "EN, a frontier town" used as a New Year's card. Down in the corner, viewers can see a glimpse of the same dusty town with a character running through it.

This concept is demonstrated in the image shared with Sakaguchi’s tweet, in which we see one such crafted diorama of a dusty desert town built into a rocky outcrop. According to Sakaguchi, Fantasian will have players going on an adventure that traverses hand-crafted dioramas as its environments. Sakaguchi recently teased Mistwalker’s Fantasian via his personal Twitter account, sharing a small glimpse of what the game might look like. Fantasian is the name of the game and it’s reportedly a follow-up on the Terra Battle RPG games also launched by Mistwalker. The studio is readying to launch its latest project, which will apparently arrive sometime this year on Apple Arcade. Hironobu Sakaguchi has long been known as the creator of Final Fantasy, but his endeavors have gone far beyond since leaving Square in 2004 to form his own Mistwalker studio.
